The Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) has released a report on the factors influencing students’ mobility decisions in Ontario. With students increasingly following indirect, nontraditional pathways, ONCAT conducted a survey and interviews to better understand the information sources that students used and the factors that influenced their decision-making processes. The study found that respondents were generally considering a relatively small set of institutions for transfer and that they were most interested in institutions that met practical considerations around academic programs, proximity to home, and options like flexibility or offering advanced standing.

Schofield describes his experience navigating the education system as someone with dysgraphia, a learning disability that affects handwriting. He outlines the challenges with attending higher ed at a time when professors are increasingly assigning in-class, handwritten assignments in response to AI, as well as the difficulties he had with the formal accommodation process. Schofield concludes by noting that many students, particularly those from low-income families, would be unable to successfully navigate this system.
