Northern revitalizes Haileybury School of Mines with redesigned program

Northern College has revitalized the Haileybury School of Mines. The campus now offers a redesigned Mining Engineering Technician program that emphasizes decision-making under real conditions. The program was designed with industry input and focuses on topics such as geology, safety, and systems-based planning. “Essentially, what we’ve done is shift this program and its priorities from ‘learning about mining’ to ‘practicing how mining is done,’” said Northern VP Academic Dean Lessard. “We’ve worked to develop a program which prepares graduates for career longevity, not just securing an entry level position, to provide them with the skills they need to position themselves as future leaders.”
