Nursing association joins Canadian Federation of Students

News

The Student Association of Practical Nurses—representing students at the Centre for Nursing Studies—has reportedly voted 98% in favour of joining the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS). A ratification vote in November will officially create CFS Local 117. VOCM states that membership will provide nursing students with access to CFS membership benefits, such as its national health and dental plans. Additionally, the new union will join the federation in its advocacy efforts. CFS described the vote as “historic” as it brings all public postsecondary students in Newfoundland and Labrador under the union’s umbrella.
