A group of University of Calgary students and local high school students are calling on the Government of Alberta to implement stronger restrictions on vapes. The group—named Stop Addicting Adolescents to Vaping and E-cigarettes (SAAVE)—is comprised of 38 health science undergraduate students and high school students who are trying to tackle youth nicotine addiction. They are petitioning AB to take three measures: Ban all vape flavours aside from tobacco, ban the sale of single-use vaping devices, and require retailers to stock vaping products behind the counter. The Calgary Herald reports that two MLAs have expressed support for the behind-the-counter requirement while four MLAs have explicitly opposed the changes.
