Students need increased cybersecurity training to reduce institutional risk: Opinion

Opinion

In a recent article for Inside Higher Ed, Colleen Flaherty discusses the increasing need for students to receive cybersecurity training. Flaherty explains that a recent Inside Higher Ed survey identified that, though 68% of chief technology officers (CTOs) say faculty and staff receive adequate cybersecurity training, only 22% say that students do. Several CTOs spoke to Inside Higher Ed, explaining that universities typically do not enforce cybersecurity training for students even though they are targets of common scams related to visas or jobs. Strategist Aviva Legatt explained that cybersecurity education must also be updated to address vulnerabilities with the technologies students are currently using.
