In her article for University Affairs, Donna Trembinski (St Francis Xavier University) explains the importance of educators instilling an “attitude of constant skepticism and analysis” in students when it comes to AI. Trembinski explains how she developed an assignment where students were to use AI to create a map of ancient trade routes. Despite the maps being geographic “disasters,” 75% of students “didn’t even glance at what the AI produced.” Trembinski extended this to say that if students do not question clearly inaccurate information, they will be unable to find subtle errors introduced by AI. To combat this, Trembinski says AI literacy needs to be taught to both high school and university students.
