The University of Alberta is establishing the Grassland Learning and Knowledge Hub, a hub dedicated to conserving Canada’s grasslands. UAlberta researchers will collaborate with three partner groups: the Canadian Forage and Grassland Association, Ducks Unlimited Canada, and the RAD Network. The researchers will explore the factors that influence landowner decisions related to converting or keeping grasslands. “It’s collaborative; it allows for local perspectives to be heard,” said UAlberta Augustana Campus Adjunct Professor John Pattison-Williams. Pattison-Williams explained that the hub will enable different sectors to “come together to consider the financial, cultural, spiritual and policy aspects of grasslands conservation.” The hub is supported by $4M from Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund.
