The Government of Canada recently announced that it would expand education reimbursement for members of the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve, ensuring they can pursue postsecondary education while continuing their service to Canada. The Education Expense Reimbursement Program has been increased from 50% to up to 75% of eligible expenses, with maximums increasing from $2K to $7.5K per academic year and from $8K to $30K in a lifetime. The National Association of Career Colleges CEO Michael Sangster welcomed the announcement, stating that the investment recognizes the commitment that reserve members make to their communities and to national security.

The Tribunal administratif du Québec has reportedly overturned the Government of Quebec Ministry of Education’s decision to refuse the renewal of two private colleges’ permits. With this decision, Collège supérieur de Montréal and Collège supérieur de Sherbrooke will be able to resume their teaching activities. Noureddine Hajibi, the executive director of both colleges, welcomed the order and stated that the institutions’ “priority has always been to protect [students’] academic journey and prevent [students] from suffering the consequences” of QC’s decisions.

Statistics Canada has released the results of the 2024/2025 Financial Information of Universities Survey across four tables. University revenues have increased year over year from $52B in 2023/2024 to $55B in 2024/2025. About 57% of university revenues came from private revenue sources such as student fees; non-government grants and contracts, donations, and bequests; and investments; while the remaining 43% came from government revenues. Meanwhile, university expenditures have increased from nearly $49B to nearly $52B in 2024/2025. The majority of expenditures come from operating expenses (91%), especially compensation, while 9% come from capital expenditures.

Willis College has announced that it will be working alongside Al-Hussein Technical University in Jordan to create a cybersecurity training framework for Jordan’s armed forces. Funded by the Government of Canada’s Department of National Defence, the framework will see Willis College certify faculty members from the university as Technical Authorities, providing a stable training pipeline for the military. “By certifying our faculty as technical authorities, we are establishing Jordan’s permanent centre for advanced cyber-defence education — one that builds on Canadian expertise and continues to serve the country long after a single training cycle,” explained Al Hussein Technical University President Ismael Al-Hinti.

The University of Northern British Columbia and Shad Canada have partnered to make postsecondary education more affordable to students who participate in UNBC’s Shad Canada Summer Program. Eligible students who take part in the summer camp program on UNBC’s campus will be eligible for a tuition credit of up to $2.5K. “These promising young innovators are already demonstrating the curiosity, creative thinking, and collaborative skills needed to foster solutions to some of the pressing issues facing communities,” said UNBC Interim President Bill Owen. “The tuition credit is a meaningful way to keep the momentum going and encourage Shad UNBC participants to imagine the next steps in their educational journey.”

St Jerome’s University has signed an Ignatian Endorsement Agreement that recognizes its relationship with the Jesuits of Canada. The agreement recognizes the alignment between the two organizations and serves as a commitment to fostering academic excellence, promoting faith, and helping to develop leaders. “The Ignition Endorsement Agreement is an important milestone for St Jerome’s University,” said St Jerome’s President Dr Peter Meehan. “It brings the wisdom of the Jesuit educational tradition into our mission and strengthens our commitment to forming graduates who will lead with competence, conscience, compassion, and a commitment to the common good.”

Cégep de Sherbrooke is the latest institution to report a drop inégep de Sherbrooke department coordinator Vincent Desruisseaux told Radio-Canada that the program previously accepted a maximum of 60 students and needed to turn applicants away. This year, the program has only received a total of 50 applications. He stated that AI has changed the perception of the graphic design profession, but that market needs have not changed and job prospects remain strong.

Lakehead University, in partnership with School Mental Health Ontario and local mental health agencies, has launched its Help in Hand digital mental health tool initiative in schools across northwestern ON. The initiative provides participating students with access to the JoyPop mental health app, in addition to providing mental health training and resources to school communities. “Help in Hand is about providing practical, evidence-based tools while strengthening links to the broader mental health system,” explained Lakehead Research Chair in Youth Mental Health Aislin Mushquash. “Our hope is that this initiative will lead to a better understanding of the impact of digital spaces and technologies on youth mental health.” The initiative is supported by a $2M investment from Health Canada.

The British Columbia Supreme Court has refused to overturn a decision by the Okanagan College Board of Governors to suspend a student for repeated academic misconduct. The college reportedly suspended the student after finding that the student had engaged in five incidents of misconduct between March 2024 and November 2025. After the student appealed the decision and filed a petition for a judicial review, the college ordered a new investigation by an external investigator. Based on that investigation’s findings, the student was ultimately suspended until January 2027. The court ruled that the college’s decision was reasonable.

Trent University’s Board of Governors and OPSEU/SEFPO Local 365—representing the university’s support staff—have announced the finalization of a new collective agreement following ratification by both sides. The four-year agreement includes enhanced employee benefits and workplace supports, across-the-board wage increases, and initiatives aimed at improving the experience of working at Trent. “This four-year agreement provides important stability and sustainability for Trent University, reflecting a shared commitment to Trent’s future and to the people who make our university such an outstanding place to work and learn,” concluded Trent President Dr Cathy Bruce.
