Research Nova Scotia is awarding $27M to community health-care projects through the Focused Research Investments (FRI) initiative. Three of the projects involve postsecondary institutions: Cape Breton University will receive $12.4M to help rural aging Nova Scotians live at home longer; Dalhousie University will receive $6.5M to study youth mental health and addictions care and $1M toward a collaboration with Community Interest Company that will address local issues by providing community resources. “The researchers funded through FRIs are driven to search for answers to some of Nova Scotia’s most urgent questions, devoting their expertise in service of their communities,” said Research NS CEO Stefan Leslie.
