Université Laval, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Toronto are among several organizations that have received a combined $10M from AI company Anthropic to support their research on AI. Anthropic is providing the funding in the form of credits for its Claude AI model so that researchers can use the model in their work. The supported projects span a variety of areas including food and water security, health, and AI adoption. As a part of the announcement, Anthropic said that it will also add Canada’s three regional AI research institutes—Amii, Mila, and the Vector Institute—to the Anthropic for Startups program, which provides credits for owners to use Claude to develop their businesses.
